Crystalline silica is a common mineral found in construction materials. Without the proper safety measures, workers can breathe in the particles created by cutting, drilling, and crushing silica-containing materials and develop a serious, and sometimes deadly, lung disease known as silicosis.
OSHA’s standard requires employers to take certain steps to protect their employees from exposure to crystalline silica dust.
